Road Freight Bids
Below, you will see an example of a bid
for air freight. This is what you would
see after pressing the View Bid
Details link in the example here
if it were an air advert. Below are more
details on each type of charge quoted
in the bid. You will see that the first
charge labelled 1 on the bid example is
the main charge, air freight. This of
course is compulsory for the transport
company to enter. Below are listed details
on the other charges.
Fuel Surcharge (Charge 2)
This is an optional charge. See the section
below on charges 3-8 for more details
about charges that are optional. You will
see in the main text on the fuel surcharge
that you are given the per kilo charge
that it is based on. In the example you
will see this is 0.05 USD per kilo based
on 1000kg. The weight here would of course
be whatever weight you have entered in
your advert or for bulk contracts the
lowest of the two weights you have given.
The site then uses these figures to give
a total amount in the total column. If
your goods are heavier than you have stated
in your advert be prepared to pay an increased
price on this and other charges.
Freight Ancillary Charges etc (Charges
3 - 8)
Again these charges are optional. The
transport company will only use one of
these charges if they think they need
to, just because they do not use some
of the charge headings does not mean that
their bid is not as complete as another
company which uses more charge headings
. You should be aware of the full number
of charge headings available (the full
number is in the example). Compare all
bids that you receive against one another,
check all the charge headings against
each other, remember that the transport
company can leave a charge heading out
if they dont think they need to
use it in putting together their bid for
you.
Road Freight Charge In Destination
and Arrival Countries (Charge 9 &
10)
If you have requested a quote for road
freight in the arrival and/or the destination
country you might now see either or both
of these charge lines appear in a bid.
It is not compulsory for the transport
company to bid for road freight. It is
not compulsory because the transport company
might be able to give a very good quote
for the the actual air freight component
but might not be able to provide the road
freight. If their air freight only bid
is attractive enough you could then arrange
your own road freight in the departure
or arrival country.
Charge for Insurance Cover you on your
Goods (Charge 11)
If you have requested a quote for insurance
on the goods you will be shipping you
might see the charge line for insurance
appear on the bids. The freight company
should only quote for insurance if they
are doing it on behalf of a properly regulated
insurance company. This is why it is optional
for freight companies to bid for this.
You may well still receive a very good
quote from a company excluding this section,
leaving you to make your own arrangements
for insurance. Please read our recommendations
on what to do once you have accepted a
freight company to move your goods.

Quote For Packing (Charge 12)
If you have requested a quote for packing,
you might see a quote in the bids you
have received to pack your goods for the
journey by air. Again this is optional
for the same reasons as road freight.
Custom Charges (Charge 13, 14, 15)
The rest of the charges so far have been
standard charges that the freight company
can use to put together their bid. They
have the option to enter three of their
own fixed charges if they see the need.
The freight company can name them, so
if you see any different charge names
from the example you will know that it
is a custom charge. An example of such
a charge might be War Risk Charge.
Per Kilo Custom Charges (Charge 16,
17)
The transport company has the option to
enter their own custom Per Kilo
charge should they see the need. To see
how Per Kilo charges work
please see the Fuel Surcharge
section above. By the transport company
quoting you the Per Kilo charge
it should be easy to work out any increases
that you might face if your goods are
of a different weight than that advertised.
Transport Company Name
We allow you to see the name of all transport
companies that bid for your adverts to
help you choose who you might use. This
way if there is a company that you have
heard of, or a preferred company that
you would like to do business with you
can use this information to help you pick
a company to use.
Transit Time
Here the transport company will give details
on how long your goods will be in transit
if they move them for you.
Frequency of Shipping
The transport company will let you know
here how frequent they move freight between
the locations specified in your advert.
Departure Date of First Airplane
You will see the departure date of the
first plane after the date that your goods
are ready to collect or after the date
that your contract will start.
Departure Airport
You will only see this here if you have
not specified a departure airport in your
advert. The transport company will now
state here the departure airport that
they have based their bid on.
Arrival Airport
Again like the departure airport you will
only see this here on a bid if you have
not specified the arrival airport on your
advert. The transport company will now
state here the arrival airport that they
have based their bid on.
